Peter delivers a keynote at Ontario Tech's inaugural AI Forum

Today, Peter delivered a keynote at Ontario Tech’s inaugural AI Forum that was held under the theme Building Trust: The Strategic Advantage of Human-Centred AI. The event convened more than 200 leaders to examine how human-centred AI can support innovation, accountability and economic growth.

There, Peter discussed how responsible innovation in AI as requiring both trustworthy technology and for those building and deploying AI to demonstrate trustworthiness ourselves. If we want to take advantage of the benefits of AI, build justified trust, and ensure we avoid AI harms, these are non-negotiable.

Peter presented six principles for responsible innovation in AI, based on experience at the Mindful AI Research Institute and grounded in trustworthiness:

1. Practice inclusive co-design of AI systems
2. Look for evidence and base decisions on it
3. Be open and curious about failures
4. Have strong governance
5. Skip the hype
6. Start with the challenge, not the solution
