This week, Peter delivered a keynote address at the Ottawa Responsible AI Summit (ORAIS).

The Ottawa Responsible AI Hub, established by our very own Somto Mbelu, is committed to bringing stakeholders together to shape policy, advance education and build partnerships that put people at the heart of AI, ensuring it works for the communities it serves.

Peter’s talk, Building Trust, Accountability and Responsible Innovation in the Age of AI, emphasized that it’s not about how we “get people to trust AI”, but instead, intelligently placed trust: ideally we would trust the trustworthy and distrust the untrustworthy.

Determining what is trustworthy or not requires evidence, we need to ask when it fails, and to present evidence and reasons to find AI trustworthy. Not convincing, and not uncritical hype.

Well done to Somto for convening such a fantastic event!
