Haider, Lukas, and Nathan conclude their TechForGood projects

A selection of photos from their final presentations

Over the summer we hosted three TechForGood projects, Haider, Lukas, and Nathan. Each joined us from a new initiative from the Faculty of Business and Information Technology (FBIT) that partners placement students with initiative aligned projects.

Haider worked on establishing the foundations for internal simulations utilizing the TurtleBot4s under the supervision of John. John commented that Haider brought enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, and constantly looked for things to work on and ways to progress the work further. Despite his challenging work schedule he remained highly flexible and dedicated to the internship. The result of the internship produced high-quality and useful results that will be beneficial to future research thanks to Haider.

Lukas explored bloodstain pattern analysis, exploring a CNN-based approach to classification under the supervision of Ainaz. Ainaz commented that Lukas brought curiosity, dedication, and initiative to his internship, always self-motivated, he consistently chose the most challenging tasks and delivered thoughtful, high-quality results. His contributions added real value to the project, and it was a pleasure to work with him.

Nathan was instrumental in developing a publicly accessible Julia package, enabling developers to connect Julia to SWI-Prolog. Nathan’s contributions will go on to serve a range of applications, supporting, in particular, normative and reflective agents that may better serve people and society. Nathan’s supervisor on the project, Nath, commented Over such a short period, Nathan has demonstrated excellence in acquiring new skills and programming languages, also displaying the confidence to apply these skills to complete the project.
